Landscape-scale Restoration Planning
Habitat Restoration Assessment
Habitat Restoration Assessment, Orange County, California – The Nature Conservancy, and Irvine Ranch Conservancy
NewFields provided habitat restoration technical expertise in evaluating 11,000 acres of open space for restoration potential based on existing conditions of exotic species densities, soils, and disturbance factors. NewFields staff:
- Developed strategies for restoration of coastal sage scrub, oak woodlands, forb lands and native grasslands identified in the field assessment;
- Mapped exotic species distribution over the site using pen tablet field computer equipped with PenMap software and GPS unit. Mapping efforts included identification of species, data collection, data management in Access and GIS, and preparation of ArcView map images;
- Prepared the project report Exotic Species Distribution and Habitat Restoration Management for management of exotic, invasive species and summarized appropriate restoration potential for disturbed lands.
