West Bluffs Project

West Bluffs Project, County of Los Angeles, California – Catellus Residential Development

NewFields provided specialty restoration services for developing a coastal sage scrub restoration and revegetation plan for an 18-acre site, mostly within the California coastal zone. The site's soils are extremely sandy and required site preparation and precise erosion control. Site plans included restoring a steep coastal bluff and a native view trail at the bluff top.

Responsibilities included coordinating with the staff of the California Coastal Commission, the Fire Chief for the City of Los Angeles Fire Department, and the Friends of the Ballona Wetlands during development of the plan. This project is ongoing to include construction management services for implementation of the restoration plan. Monitoring this project's habitat establishment is ongoing in the fourth year, and the habitat is on track to achieve performance criteria.
